Sara Gilbert used her seat on The Talk to commend Roseanne co-star Emma Kenney as she receives treatment for her "battles."
"I just first want to say, Emma, I’m so proud of you," she said.
"I know that the whole cast and crew are so proud of you and it takes a lot of courage to… We all have demons and it takes a lot of courage to face them, particularly at 18. I envy you."
Gilbert went on, noting that if she "could go back to being 18" and do what Kenney is doing, she "would be a better person today."
"I commend you, I love you and I know you will come out the other side. And thank you for speaking up and being an example of other people," she added.
On Wednesday, April 11, Kenney released a statement to the world that highlighted her recent struggles.
"I was running with a really fast crowd,” the 18-year-old said. "I was being naive and very immature, and I was doing things I should not be doing because it was illegal and I’m not 21. It wasn’t healthy, and it was making me feel even worse — anxious and depressed. It was just a slippery slope that I did not want to go down. And I knew that I needed to stop it."
Kenney went on, saying that she wants to "be the healthiest, best Emma that I can be."
"I know that by going to treatment that’s what’s going to happen, and I’m going to continue on that positive road," she said.
"I just want to send a message to my fans saying that it’s OK to admit that you need help, and it doesn’t make you weak. I’m going to come out on the other side, the true Emma that I’ve always been."
Ahead of her statement, Kenney also withdrew herself from having any presence on her various social media platforms.
