Sara Gilbert 'So Proud' of 'Roseanne' Co-Star Emma Kenney for Seeking Treatment

"Thank you for speaking up."

Sara Gilbert used her seat on The Talk to commend Roseanne co-star Emma Kenney as she receives treatment for her "battles."

"I just first want to say, Emma, I’m so proud of you," she said.

Gilbert went on, noting that if she "could go back to being 18" and do what Kenney is doing, she "would be a better person today."

"I commend you, I love you and I know you will come out the other side. And thank you for speaking up and being an example of other people," she added.

On Wednesday, April 11, Kenney released a statement to the world that highlighted her recent struggles.

"I was running with a really fast crowd,” the 18-year-old said. "I was being naive and very immature, and I was doing things I should not be doing because it was illegal and I’m not 21. It wasn’t healthy, and it was making me feel even worse — anxious and depressed. It was just a slippery slope that I did not want to go down. And I knew that I needed to stop it."

Kenney went on, saying that she wants to "be the healthiest, best Emma that I can be."

"I know that by going to treatment that’s what’s going to happen, and I’m going to continue on that positive road," she said.

"I just want to send a message to my fans saying that it’s OK to admit that you need help, and it doesn’t make you weak. I’m going to come out on the other side, the true Emma that I’ve always been."

Ahead of her statement, Kenney also withdrew herself from having any presence on her various social media platforms.

"Hello & goodbye (for a bit),” she wrote on Twitter. "I’ve decided to take a break from social media and LA for a minute. This sounds so cliche but this town/industry can really get to you. Going to re-find my peace happiness xo emma."

Along with her role on Roseanne, Kenney has portrayed Debbie Gallagher on Showtime's Shameless for the past eight seasons.
