Prince Harry’s ex posts cryptic Instagram message after engagement news

Cressida Bonas was seemingly in philosophical mood

| Updated:

No matter how amicable a break-up is, it’s not always easy to see an old flame has moved on and is happy than ever with a new love.

So spare a thought for Cressida Bonas, who this week had to see her ex Prince Harry’s joy at getting engaged to Meghan Markle splashed all over the news.

Now 24 hours after the announcement which has caused huge excitement for another royal wedding, Cressida, 28, has shared a cryptic Instagram post.

The actress shared a drawing of two people on swings reaching for one another’s hands.

It was accompanied by a quote which read: “No matter how educated, talented, rich or cool you believe you are, how you treat people ultimately tells it all.”

Cressida captioned the picture with the word “truth” followed by “#quotestoliveby”.

So was it a coincidence she’s shared this in the same week as the royal engagement? Or it is a sly dig at Harry for how he may have treated her?

Cressida and Harry were a couple for two years before they split in 2014.

It was reported that Cressida, who comes from an aristocratic background, couldn’t cope with the public scrutiny that came with being in a relationship with the (soon to be) sixth in line to the throne.

She was also keen to focus on her own acting career which was just taking off when she met Harry via mutual friends including his cousin Princess Eugenie.

She recently landed a starring role in James Arthur’s latest pop video and appears in the film Tulip Fever.

Meanwhile, Meghan has revealed she’s giving up her work as an actress on Suits to be Harry’s wife.

She will be moving to the UK and will work “as a team” with her husband touring the Commonwealth and promoting charities they will choose to support.

“I don’t see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change,” she said as the loved-up pair gave their first TV interview together on Monday.

She added that growing up in America, she had no idea of quite how much interest there is in the royal family in the UK and has been shocked by the media intrusion into her life and background.

She said: “I have never been part of tabloid culture. I’ve never been in pop culture to that degree and lived a relatively quiet life even though I focused so much on my job and so that was a really stark difference out of the gate.”

While it seems this was enough to put Cressida off, Meghan is taking it all in her stride and said she’s chosen to ignore any negative press to “focus on nurturing” her relationship with the Prince.

This led to him popping the question while they cooked a roast dinner together earlier this month, nearly 18 months after they first met.

Harry said he is delighted Meghan will soon become his wife.

It has been revealed they will tie the knot at Windsor Castle in May next year, after his brother Prince William and wife Kate have welcomed their third baby.
