Playboy model Dani Mathers has been charged with a CRIME after allegedly taking a nude picture of a 70-year-old woman getting changed at the gym – then body-shaming her on social media.
The former Playboy playmate could now face six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
The star sparked a massive public backlash in July when a picture of a naked older woman getting dressed in the locker room of her gym appeared on her Snapchat.
The image was captioned: “If I can’t unsee this then you can’t either.”
The 29-year-old later apologized for taking the picture and sharing it online – claiming she thought it was a private message.
She said: “That was absolutely wrong and not what I meant to do.
“I know that body-shaming is wrong. That is not the type of person I am.”
The blonde model also tweeted at the time that she needed to reflect on why she did “this horrible thing”.
Officials have now announced that Mathers has been charged with invasion of privacy after “she allegedly used her cell phone to surreptitiously take a nude picture of a woman in the shower/locker area of a local LA Fitness health club.”
“The photograph was later allegedly uploaded to Mather’s Snapchat account – along with comments about the woman’s appearance and a picture of Mathers covering her mouth,” prosecutors added.
“Body shaming is humiliating, with often painful, long-term consequences,” Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer said.
“It mocks and stigmatizes its victims, tearing down self-respect and perpetuating the harmful idea that our unique physical appearances should be compared to air-brushed notions of ‘perfect.’ What really matters is our character and humanity.
“While body-shaming, in itself, is not a crime, there are circumstances in which invading one’s privacy to accomplish it can be. And we shouldn’t tolerate that.”
She will be arraigned in court on November 28.
