Piers Morgan reveals what it would take to defect to BBC

Would they want him?

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan has revealed what it would take for him to leave ITV for the BBC.

The presenter claimed on Twitter that he would only consider moving to the BBC if they were willing to pay him double Gary Lineker’s salary.

He was responding to claims made by the Daily Star that Piers could be the new host of Question Time after news broke that David Dimbleby was stepping down.

The paper tweeted out the story with the caption “Would @piersmorgan ditch ITV for BBC? 🤔”

He lost no time in replaying, saying in response: “Only if they paid me twice @GaryLineker’s salary.”

The sports reporter is currently the BBC’s highest earning presenter, making around £1.75m.

He was shown to have overtaken Chris Evans when this year’s list of BBC salaries was revealed.

The list showed that despite the BBC’s commitment to transparency and closing the pay gap, women still make considerably less than their male counterparts.

But generous though a salary of £3.5 million might sound, it would constitute a serious pay cut for Piers.

Last year he claimed that he takes home a whopping £22.5 million a year – expressing his shock at the comparatively low salaries of the BBC’s presenters.

“I’m also truly shocked at the size of these BBC salaries,” he said. “They get out of bed for THAT?”

Of course, we’ll have to take this with a pinch of salt…

But whether or not he was willing to move to the BBC, he might prove too much of a controversy magnet for the broadcaster.

He’s recently been accused of fat-shaming after penning a brutal open letter to plus-size model Tess Holliday.

In the letter, written for the Mail Online, he called Tess “deluded” claiming she was “massively, dangerously overweight yet feigning joy.”

Tess was the first plus size model to feature on the cover of Cosmopolitan Magazine – but appears to have angered Piers by being happy and successful while also being overweight.

She responded to Piers’ attacks on her by tweeting that it was his obsession with her that is strange.

“The last 2 weeks you’ve been obsessed with me. Makes me feel like you’re almost into thicker girls & too afraid to admit it 💁🏻‍♀️🤣,” she said.
