Piers Morgan hits out at Denise Welch over mental health issues

The presenter referred to Denise as a "publicity-starved bore" in the tweet

Controversial Piers Morgan has now hit out at yet another famous face on Twitter.

The Good Morning Britain host accused actress Denise Welch of using her mental health problems as a “fashion accessory”.

Piers, 52, is no stranger to giving his controversial views on mental health issues.

In a recent interview with Outnewsglobal.com Denise slammed Piers for his views on mental health by saying: “Who is Piers Morgan to even comment on mental illness?

“He doesn’t suffer from it, he doesn’t live with someone who has it and he’s not a psychologist.”

To which Piers took to Twitter to respond saying: “Pipe down, you publicity-starved bore.

“Like so many celebrities these days, you use ‘mental health’ as a brand-enhancing fashion accessory.”

And now his comments have sparked a feud between the pair as Denise, 59, hit back saying: “As a proud ambassador for @MindCharity @homegroup @heads_together I am very hurt by this.”

In a series of tweets she added: “I have lived with clinical depression for 30 yrs @piersmorgan since the birth of my child.

“I have had several breakdowns, been hospitalised, and vowed to always speak out on behalf of those who don’t have a voice.

“You are not a doctor of mental health nor a sufferer therefore completely unqualified to comment on this terrible illness.

“Shame on you. Shame on you. @piersmorgan.”

The former Coronation Street star has been open about her mental health struggles and her battle with alcoholism and depression.

Denise recently paid tribute to her hubby Lincoln Townley, 44, for standing by her during her darkest times while she suffered from severe depression.

She told the Sunday People: “The first time I had a serious episode we were in between moving houses.

“Lincoln looked in my eyes and saw the deadness.

“He was absolutely incredible, especially for someone who has had no experience of mental illness, and remains wonderful to this day.”

Earlier this month there were rumours that the star could be making a return to ITV talk show Loose Women.

Denise was on the show for ten years before quitting back in 2013.

Revealing all to the Daily Star, she said: “I’m thrilled with the success of Loose Women. I think what they have just done is an amazing campaign but I have gone back to my acting.”
