Piers Morgan helps reporter after he “struggles” during Ant McPartlin arrest report

Reporter seemed to momentarily forget Declan Donnelly's name

Piers Morgan chipped in to help a reporter during a Good Morning Britain segment on Ant McPartlin’s arrest.

GMB’s correspondent Jonathan Swain was reporting live from South West London, where Ant’s car was involved in a collision with two other vehicles on Sunday.

TV presenter Ant, 42, was arrested at around 4pm on Sunday after failing a roadside breathalyser test and later released under investigation.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said that Ant was “taken to a south London police station for questioning and has since been released under investigation.”

Inquiries continue, the spokeswoman added.

Jonathan was reporting to Piers and Susanna Reid when he appeared to stumble over the identity of Ant’s best pal and telly partner Declan Donnelly.

“This happened just a few hours didn’t it… less than 24 hours after him presenting Saturday Night Takeaway with his er, his other, er, friend, er Dec and then of course much publicised problems in his personal life,” said Jonathan.

“Recently he announced he’s going to divorce wife Lisa of 11 years and he checked himself into rehab for addiction to painkillers. Lots of problems in his personal life and this incident won’t help that, will it?”

Piers replied: “No. He’s had a lot going on, that’s for sure. By the way Jonathan, it’s Dec. That’s the name of the other guy.”

Susanna added: “Declan.”

Piers then said: “He seemed to be struggling to remember who poor old Dec is…”

Scotland Yard released a statement regarding an incident on Lower Richmond Road just before 4pm on Sunday.

“Police were called to Lower Richmond Road at 15:59hours following reports of a road traffic collision involving three vehicles. A number of individuals were treated at the scene for minor injuries only,” it reads.

“A child passenger from one of the cars has been taken to hospital for a check-up as a precaution.

“A 42-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink-driving after failing a roadside breathalyser test.”

This is the latest in a string of personal setbacks for the star, who works as Ant and Dec with Declan Donnelly.

Ant entered rehab last year after struggling with an addiction to painkillers following a knee operation in 2015.

He returned to screens in November for I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! and jokingly mentioned his rehab stint along with his TV partner.

In January, Ant confirmed that he and his wife Lisa were separating after 11 years of marriage.

At the National Television Awards a few days after the split, Ant referred to his “tough year” while picking up the presenting prize with Dec.

Following Ant’s arrest, fans have questioned whether his weekly programme, Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, will air as normal this weekend.

ITV has yet to comment on the programme, which is scheduled to air live on Saturday at 7pm.

Entertainment Daily has contacted Ant’s representative, who is currently offering “no comment”.
