Peter Kay announces charity screening of Car Share amid 112-date tour cancellation

A charity screening of new Car Share episodes will take place in April

| Updated:

Peter Kay has broken his silence for the first time since December, when he cancelled his entire 112-date tour.

The comedian has announced a charity screening of new episodes of Peter Kay’s Car Share in April.

The charity screening will air four episodes of Peter Kay’s Car Share, including the premiere of two brand new episodes: Car Share Unscripted and the series finale.

All funds raised will support The Lily Foundation.

Peter said: “The Lily Foundation is an inspiring charity that helps to improve the lives of children with Mitochondrial Disease.

“I’ve had first-hand experience of the Foundation’s work and I’m proud to raise both awareness and much needed funds to help with the inspiring work they provide to children and their families.”

A message posted to Peter’s official Twitter account said:  “Exciting news: A charity screening of new Peter Kay’s Car Share episodes will be held at Blackpool Opera House on Saturday 7th April. Tickets on sale Saturday at 9am.”

Fans were quick to say how pleased they were to hear from Peter again, after his lengthy absence from social media.

One wrote: “Nice to hear from you Peter. Hope all is well with you and your family. Take care.”

Another said: “Lovely to see a Tweet from you and lovely news about Car Share.”

A third added: “Good to hear from you and for such a good reason. Hope it is a successful transmission. Keeping you & your family in our thoughts.”

The second series of the BBC show ended on an emotional cliffhanger last year as John (Kay) failed to reciprocate the advances of his car share colleague Kayleigh (Sian Gibson).

And fans of the programme were dismayed when Peter announced that he had no plans to pen a further series.

But the comic later announced special episodes – a special finale to reveal what happens next for the pair and an entirely improvised episode, Car Share: Unscripted.

Both hotly-anticipated shows, Unscripted and the finale, were filmed last year.

Peter announced in December that he was cancelling upcoming work commitments, including his live tour, because of “unforeseen family circumstances”.

He also pulled out of his Dance for Life charity shows and all live work commitments.

At the time, he said: “Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects.

“This unfortunately includes my upcoming stand-up tour, Dance for Life shows and any outstanding live work commitments.

“My sincerest apologies. This decision has not been taken lightly and I’m sure you’ll understand my family must always come first.
