Her life outside the cobbles is miles apart from her soap storyline

Coronation Street actress Sonia Ibrahim has revealed how “perfect” her proposal was to her “soulmate”.

How beautiful is that backdrop?!

Her caption for the photo album read: “I’M ENGAGED this is the moment my beautiful husband to be asked me to be his wife. I honestly couldn’t ask for a more perfect man to be my soon to be husband.”

Sonia told Manchester Evening News: “I’m so happy to be engaged. He is my best friend as well as my partner and we’re excited to spend the rest of our lives together!

“Although we’d discussed the possibility of it happening one day, I wasn’t expecting it any time soon as it was a huge surprise.”

Opening up about the details of her magical night, she said: “He took me to Manchester Town Hall pretending we were supposed to be trying a new restaurant in there.

“Upstairs is a beautiful space which they call ‘The Bees’ where we stood talking. He then surprised me by getting down on his knee with the ring in his hand. I burst into tears and of course said yes!

Sonia then said that as they had been together for so long, it only feels right that they should tie the knot and she can’t wait to take their relationship to the next level.

Aww! Aren’t they the sweetest?

The actress’s personal life couldn’t be better, but her on-screen storyline is anything but.

Corrie viewers have watched as Bethany Platt has been continually blackmailed and manipulated by her older boyfriend, Nathan.

After he arrived on the cobbles, we met Mel who said she knew Nathan from a while back, and that she worked in his tanning shop.

Sonia’s character had previously been encouraging Bethany – played by Lucy Fallon – to give a false alibi to the police to SAVE Nathan.

But it is becoming clear that Mel was once in the same position as Bethany, and was groomed by him once herself.

Sonia told The Mirror: “Mel is just as manipulated as Bethany is. She has been abused by Nathan, she knows exactly what he is capable of, how scary he is and she is doing all this because she knows what will happen if she doesn’t.

“But, in her eyes, he did save her from a horrible upbringing. Even though he didn’t make her life any better with the things that he did to her, he is her saviour but her captor.”
