Mel B turns to Simon Cowell as she tackles grief and divorce

Spice Girl needs a shoulder to cry on

It’s been a pretty tough time for Mel B of late.

Last week she announced to the world that her marriage to Stephen Belafonte was over, and was devastated when her father Martin lost his five-year battle with multiple myeloma cancer.

Now, following her father’s funeral in Leeds last Thursday, she has dashed back to the US to start work on America’s Got Talent.

Though it is clearly a rocky time for her, she is hoping her telly boss and friend Simon Cowell will lend her a shoulder to cry on.

Friends of the Spice Girl have said that she is really keen to get her personal life back on track and get the divorce sorted out quickly.

However, with the launch of AGT taking place today, she is said to be worried that she will be grilled by journos in attendance!

“Mel wants to sort things out and move on. She faces a tricky Monday with the AGT launch,” one of those sources revealed…

“Journalists from around the country attend and her divorce and recent loss are sure to come up.

“In the past she has been the life and soul of the launches, cracking jokes and being very outspoken.

“None of us have been told what she will do Monday and it will likely depend on her mood. Not only does she have the marriage to deal with but she is just fresh from her dad’s funeral.

“Simon is supporting his co-star. She will probably have photos, a few interviews then leave. He knows how emotionally fraught her life is right now.”

In spite of her dark period of life, there has been a silver lining – she has been reunited with her sister Danielle, who she hadn’t spoken to in years.

It’s believed that the family rift was due to her relationship with Stephen and their dislike for him.

But now the sisters are friends again and just last week Mel posted a picture of herself and Danielle holding hands with their dad.

She wrote: “Both of his children were by his side and say thank you to all the doctors and nurses for amazing care over the years.”

Mel has cited “irreconcilable differences” in her divorce from Belafonte and there is an application for joint custody of their daughter Madison.
