Meghan Markle reportedly breaks Queen’s strict dress code for engagement announcement

Couple announced their engagement yesterday

| Updated:

The world made a collective sigh of relief yesterday when HRH Prince Harry and Suits actress girlfriend Meghan Markle announced their engagement.

Not only does it end months of ‘will-they-won’t-they?’ scrutiny but it also means we can finally start planning the next Royal Wedding Knees Up that saw us knee-deep in fizz by 10.30am the last time around.

But, it seems that Meghan may have already slipped up on Royal protocol.

The Queen has said she’s “delighted” for her grandson and wishes the couple every happiness.

But Meghan’s break with tradition during her engagement announcement pictures could have caused a stir.

According to Harper’s Bazaar, the Queen has some very strict dress requirements that need to be adhered to for all her family members and guests – and one of those is to always wear tights.

And guess what? Meghan rocked a decidedly bare leg yesterday.

The Queen apparently also requires all ladies to carry a clutch bag (second strike for Meghan who didn’t hold anything except Harry’s hand – awww), is against brightly coloured lippie and nails and has banned short skirts, wedges and heels over 6-inches.

But Meghan appeared to throw caution to the wind and go against the Royal hosiery rule, choosing a bare leg and a white coat.

In a sweet public announcement video Harry revealed that the ring he gave Meghan contained two diamonds which belonged to his late mother, Princess Diana, as well as another one that came from Botswana.

He has also suggested that he thinks Diana would be over the moon at his news, which will see the couple get married next year.
