Duchess of Sussex to join The Queen on official engagement

The Duke of Sussex will not be present for the engagement

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex is to accompany The Queen on an official engagement later this month.

The former actress will join Her Majesty to open Chester’s Storyhouse Theatre and the Mersey Gateway Bridge on June 14.

They will also attend a lunch together in Chester.

It will mark the first time Meghan has joined The Queen for an engagement, and the first time Meghan has undertaken an engagement without her husband, The Duke of Sussex.

Meghan became a member of the royal family when she married Prince Harry at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19.

The newlyweds were gifted the titles The Duke and Duchess of Sussex by The Queen on their wedding day.

Meghan and Harry have not been seen in public since back on May 22, when they attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace just days after tying the knot.

It’s been rumoured the pair could be on honeymoon, although that has not been confirmed by Kensington Palace.

To protect the couple’s privacy, details of a honeymoon would not be released publicly, although destinations including Canada and Africa have been touted as strong possibilities.

Meghan and Harry are expected to be at Trooping The Colour on Saturday, to mark The Queen’s birthday.

Members of the royal family will undertake a parade from Buckingham Palace, down to The Mall to Horse Guard’s Parade and back to the palace, where an RAF fly-past will take place.

It will be Meghan’s first experience of the lavish and historic event.

Meanwhile, Meghan and Harry, 33, are expected to travel to Sydney, Australia in September for the fourth Invictus Games.

The games, founded by Harry, feature wounded military veterans competing in various sporting events.

Yesterday, it was announced the 2020 Invictus Games will be held in the Netherlands.
