Matthew Wolfenden has revealed he’s undergone surgery on his foot.

The Emmerdale actor, 38, took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a photo of himself lying on an operating table as a sheet was placed in front of the lower half of his body while doctors operated on his foot.

In the picture, Matthew – who plays David Metcalfe in the soap – posed in a hospital gown with a pulse oximetry on his finger.

My current view…… I’m having an op on my foot, not a caesarian! 😂

It comes after the actor revealed an Emmerdale scene was rewritten when he broke his thumb off set and had to wear a white cast.

During the soap segment on an episode of This Morning last month, Matthew shared a clip showing his character David and Maya Stepney (Louisa Clein) in his store the morning after they spent the night together.

In the episode, David is sporting a cast on his right thumb and told Maya he “trapped it in the van” that morning.

Matthew explained: “I broke my thumb the day before we shot that episode. So we had to write that in.”

Revealing how he got the injury, Matthew added: “I was playing cricket and got hit by the ball.

“It’s still quite sore and I had to write that in as it was very evident. I had to have that put on for two weeks.”
