Lorraine Kelly opens up about her menopause struggle

She admits to no longer seeing joy in life

Lorraine Kelly has revealed how the menopause made her lose her ‘mojo’.

The Scottish presenter is known for her bubbly personality but admitted she didn’t feel like herself after starting to develop symptoms.

Lorraine, 57, revealed that with the help of hormone replacement therapy patches she started to feel great again.

Talking about the condition in a very honest interview recently Lorraine said: “I lost my mojo.

“I didn’t feel like me. It was weird. Things didn’t feel quite right. I wouldn’t say I was depressed at all but I wasn’t seeing much joy in things.

“I kept thinking: ‘Hang on a minute, I’ve got a brilliant job and, more importantly, I’ve got a great family and pals. What’s wrong with me?’.

“But it was just my hormones were all over the place.”

The star went on to reveal that she struggled to confide in her husband, Steve, and her daughter Rosie, 23.

“It’s like when you’re pregnant and you find yourself sobbing at adverts, which is what I used to do,” she added.

Talking about how she finally overcame the symptoms Lorraine revealed that she asked Doctor Hilary Jones for advice.

The presenter said that she started taking hormone replacement therapy patches to relieve the symptoms and they helped re-balance her life.

She told the mag: “They’re fantastic and re-balanced me.

“Now I understand why I wasn’t feeling great myself. It was just a blip, but it did feel disheartening.”

“I’m good at hiding things. I tend to plaster a smile on and just get on with it. That’s what most women do,” she added.

Lorraine isn’t the only TV face that has opened up about the menopause.

Carol Vorderman, 56, opened up about developing symptoms earlier last year.

The Countdown star admitted that she was so low at one point that she “didn’t see the point in anything” following her battle with depression, which was brought on by the menopause.

She told the Mirror: “I got to my 50s – and I love my 50s – but the menopause is a bit challenging.

“It was last year particularly. I had six months when I was really low. I’m not a depressed person but in that space of time I was genuinely depressed.

“It got to Christmas and I thought, ‘God, what on Earth is wrong? I can’t bear this’.”

She continued: “I analysed exactly the times that it happened and it was linked directly to the times that are important to a woman every month.

“I thought, ‘That’s what it is’.”

Carol appeared on ITV’s Lorraine to speak to pal Lorraine about her personal struggles.

Lorraine praised Carol for speaking so candidly about her depression.

She said: “I’m very fond of Carol and she had a terrible time.

“She was clinically depressed and at one point she didn’t see any point in carrying on. There are very few taboos but it’s one of the things we don’t talk about – and we should.”

Loose Women’s Nadia Sawalha has also been very open about dealing with the menopause.

The star broke down in a clip shared to her Facebook about starting to lose her hair.

She said: “When I started going through the peri-menopause I think I lost a third of my hair.

“People always say my hair is so thick and amazing. This is where it’s balding. I’m losing it all over.

“It makes me really sad, it just makes me feel old and I know I should feel grateful, I do try to and I do say I’m grateful but it doesn’t mean that I don’t miss my hair terrible.”
