Likely Lads star Rodney Bewes dies aged 79

He was a TV great

Actor Rodney Bewes has passed away at the age of 79, it has been confirmed by his agent.

The beloved TV star was best known for playing cheeky Bob Ferris in the hit sitcom The Likely Lads.

Created in 1964, the sitcom set the template for many comedy shows to follow. It ran for three series in the 1960s, before coming back in colour in the 1970s.

His agent Michelle Braidman said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that we confirm that our dear client, the much loved actor Rodney Bewes, passed away this morning.

“Rodney was a true one off. We will miss his charm and ready wit.”

Fans took to Twitter to pour in tributes to the actor, many sharing his best lines and moments from The Likely Lads TV show.

ITV presenters Ant and Dec appeared in a 2002 remake of the show called A Tribute to the Likely Lads, which also featured a cameo appearance by Rodney.

He leaves behind children Billy, Joe, Tom and Daisy, and two grandchildren, Oscar and Eliza.
