Kym Marsh reveals son David’s “scary” hospital dash with potentially-dangerous infection

She's thankful her son is now on the mend

Kym Marsh has shared her fears after son David was admitted to hospital with an infection in one of his saliva glands.

The Coronation Street star wrote in her OK! magazine column the incident had given the whole family a “scare” and she’s thankful David, 22, is now on the mend.

Kym, 41, explained that David had gone to visit his doctor when he first noticed something was wrong.

He was prescribed antibiotics but his symptoms then got worse.

“Three days later, his neck and jaw were turning red and his face had swollen to twice the size,” she said.

“I took him to hospital where we saw a specialist who said he had to stay in for 48 hours as there was a chance the infection could enter his blood stream, which would have been very dangerous.

“He was put on an antibiotic drip and it was all very scary, but thankfully he’s home now and on the mend. I’m really grateful that we caught it before it got any worse.”

Kym has three children: David and Emily, 20, from her relationship with ex Dave Cunliffe, and seven-year-old Polly with ex-husband Jamie Lomas.

She tragically lost son Archie in 2009, when he passed away moments after birth.

The soap star recently revealed she’s made the decision to not have any more children, following the trauma of Archie’s death and a difficult pregnancy with Polly.

“To be honest, I took the decision to not have any more children. I can’t have any more children now,” she told ITV’s Lorraine.

“I made that decision after I had Polly. I don’t know if anybody knows. I almost lost Polly as well several times throughout the pregnancy and it was very traumatic.

“I was on bed rest for months and she was born very early. She was born seven weeks premature. Thankfully she’s okay and really healthy, but it was traumatic.

“I took the decision I wasn’t going to [have more children] as I’m lucky enough to have the three children I’ve got, and I didn’t want to run that risk because it’s too painful.”
