Kerry Katona makes a promise to close friend Katie Price

They've been friends since I'm A Celebrity in 2004

Kerry Katona has vowed she’ll never sell out close friend Katie Price by speaking publicly about any issues she’s facing.

The former Atomic Kitten star, 38, told New! Magazine she’s been offered money to spill the beans on Katie’s life but has absolutely no intention of ever going down that path.

During an interview, when asked for her thoughts on Katie’s current situation, Kerry replied it wasn’t a subject she wanted to discuss.

“People have the right to deal with things in private and I’m certainly not jumping on anyone’s back to speak about it,” said Kerry.

“I’ve been offered money before!

“But I’m not that type of friend. It happened to me – even my own mum sold stories on me and I wouldn’t want to do that to anyone.

“I’ll say it to Kate personally. I’m not going to go to papers and magazines to talk about it.”

The pair met in the I’m A Celebrity jungle back in 2004 and have remained close over the years.

While Kerry won’t discuss any issues affecting Katie, 40, or her thoughts on them, she has urged everyone to “lay off” the former glamour model as she seeks treatment in rehab for post-traumatic stress disorder.

Kerry has said Katie needs understanding, not criticism.

She told The Mirror: “Everyone’s quick to jump on the bandwagon and notice all her faults. All I want to say to everyone is: ‘lay off her’. Why not pull each other up?

“No one is actually going ‘what’s the underlying problem of why she’s got to where she is at the minute?’.”

Katie’s had a difficult year with her beloved mum Amy being diagnosed with a terminal lung condition, her marriage to third husband Kieran Hayler breaking down, and a romance with boyfriend Kris Boyson recently ending.

She’s also faced headlines about her financial situation, the state of her mansion and allegations of wild partying, including a video clip filmed during a hen do in Majorca showing her appearing to rap “I love coke”.

Amy confirmed over the weekend Katie would spend 28 days in rehab.

Amy told The Sun that although Katie can be her “own worst enemy”, she’s also been judged for years and subjected to “endless attacks” over everything she does.

Amy said: “She is constantly judged on her kids, her home, work, financial situation, the way she looks, how she dresses and what she does.

“No person can take this kind of pressure and not succumb to it.”

The star has not tweeted anything since August 28, when she shared several posts about the importance of disabled access at public events and restaurants.

Her most recent Instagram post was on September 6, when she shared a photo of her youngest children Jett, five, and Bunny, four, enjoying a dip in the hot tub.
