Katie Price invited to guest edit BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour

She's promised to tackle some "controversial" subjects

Katie Price has shared her excitement after being invited to guest edit a special edition of BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour.

The 40-year-old will take control of the programme on Thursday, July 19, to edit an episode on two issues very close to her heart.

She will explore why theme parks don’t have wheelchair-friendly and sensory stimulation rides, speaking from her own experience having a disabled son, Harvey.

Katie will also examine the issue of online abuse, again drawing from her own experience at the horrific trolling her son Harvey, 16, has been subjected to over the years.

She said: “I can’t wait! I would like to discuss some controversial topics close to my heart which I feel passionate about and understand people’s views on these. I have so much to talk about.

“I would like to create awareness for people who can relate to my topics if it helps just one person out there to know they are not alone or address issues which can make small changes to people’s lives then I have done my job.”

Katie has been campaigning in Parliament in recent months to make online abuse a criminal offence, after being horrified at some of the disgusting messages sent to her own son.

She spoke to a Parliament select committee back in February, after an anti-trolling petition she launched garnered more than 100,000 signatures.

Katie previously told Sky News: “I want to make online abuse a criminal offence and hopefully I have enough information for them and they believe it enough to take it to the next step to government so they can debate it.”

“Everyone seems to pick on my child for the colour of his skin, he has complex disabilities, he can’t speak for himself,” added Katie, who wants to introduce Harvey’s Law.

“It got that bad I got two people arrested by the police and they took it as far as they could but they were embarrassed as there is nothing in place to charge them with.”

Katie is one of five women selected to guest edit Woman’s Hour throughout July.

The Reverend Rose Hudson-Wilkin, Chaplain to the Queen and Chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons, will talk about why knife and gun crime is the responsibility of the whole community on July 16.

The following day, Helena Kennedy QC will debate the issues of gender equality and ask if women are saving the publishing industry through their book-reading habits.

On July 18, popstar Charlotte Church will look into the UK’s education system and what it takes to launch your own school.

Katie’s episode follows on July 19, while the week is wrapped up by businessman Ariana Huffington, who will discuss topics including stress and burnout.

Karen Dalziel, Woman’s Hour Editor says: “Takeover is one of the highlights of the Woman’s Hour calendar, and this year we have an incredible line up of five women who will share their great expertise. However it’s the willingness of these women to reveal some very personal insights in to their own families and lives that will make this week so special.”

Woman’s Hour airs on BBC Radio 4, Monday to Friday at 10am, and Saturday at 4pm.
