Jeremy Kyle gives rare insight into romance by revealing Valentine’s Day gesture for fiancée Vicky Burton

What an ol' romantic!

| Updated:

Jeremy Kyle usually keeps his private life far away from the limelight.

But getting into the Valentine’s Day spirit on today’s Good Morning Britain, he proudly revealed the romantic gesture he’d made for fiancée Vicky Burton, 36, before leaving for work.

Jeremy, 52, said: “It’s Valentine’s Day. I crept out of the house at 3.15am. I left the card and a glass for the champagne in the kitchen. And the flowers are organised… but anyway!”

Kate Garraway was noticeably impressed and said it was Charlotte Hawkins’ doing as she’d advised Jeremy – who got engaged last week – on how to keep the romance alive.

Jeremy joked: “I’ve taken your advice and worn a pink tie and been romantic.”

The same couldn’t be said for all of the GMB hosts, however, as Charlotte admitted she forgot to write her husband’s Valentine’s Day card or even leave it out for him. Oops!

And Jeremy wasn’t impressed when Kate said her Valentine’s Day gesture was cooking a roast chicken.

“I was going for lamb but I think I’ll stick with the chicken. You can’t beat a chicken, can you? I’ve discovered those roasts in the bag. Full proof.”

Shaking his head, Jeremy replied: “That’s a cop out. No effort there!”

Meanwhile, later on in the show,  Jeremy spoke with dating guru Lady Nadia Essex about single life and falling in love.

During a discussion about being alone on Valentine’s Day, he alluded to past relationships by saying: “I’ve learned you don’t ever end up with the person – the right person –  until you face that abyss. Don’t you have to be alone and be okay on your own and get on with your life, then that person finds you? Don’t all of us need to be alone at some stage in our lives to end up with the right person?”

The talk show host confirmed his engagement to Vicky on Monday, telling the GMB panel he popped the question during a holiday in the Caribbean.

“I got down on one knee, this is absolutely true and I haven’t let this slip yet but I will now,” he said.

“I went down on one knee and thought it would be very romantic. But it started to rain. In the Caribbean, where you wouldn’t expect it to rain.

“But it was lovely.”

The pair have been together publicly for 15 months, following the breakdown in 2015 of Jeremy’s 15-year marriage to Carla Germaine, mother to his three children, Alice, 14, Ava, 12, and Henry, eight.

Jeremy also has daughter, Harriet, 27, from his first marriage to Kirsty Rowley, which ended in 1990.

He met Vicky when she was hired as his children’s nanny.

The star has always been very tight-lipped about the relationship. During an appearance on Loose Women last year, he would only say: “It’s a new relationship, a new chapter. I’m very happy thank you very much, let’s move on with our lives.”

Congrats!
