The singer revealed all to Lorraine Kelly

Australian singer Jason Donovan has admitted Botox could well have saved his voice.

The 90s heartthrob told Lorraine Kelly on her ITV1 morning show that he was forced to postpone his UK tour last year… and it served as a wake-up call.

Jason, 49, lost his voice in the build-up to the tour and turned to Botox to save his vocals.

“That’s extraordinary!” said Lorraine.

Jason explained: “Botox was initially part of a vocal fix. So they put it directly into your larynx, it sort of calms the muscles down.

“I said to the therapist, if you fancy putting it in my forehead, I’d be very happy about that as well.”

He went on to joke: “But I do have one of the best looking necks in the business!”

The actor and singer, who made his name on Aussie soap Neighbours, added: “In this business, particularly with theatre, you push yourself so much, it does sort of take its toll.

“I think it gets to a certain point in your life where you push yourself so much with work.

“Maybe in a way it was a bit of a sort of wake up call.

“Look, it’s not 100 per cent correct, it’s a bit tight. It’s an ongoing situation, but I’ve had a bit of treatment, a bit of holistic treatment as well, a bit of Botox in the larynx as well.”

Discussing his previous vocal difficulties, he said: “It wasn’t the singing, it was the talking that was the problem. Speaking on the phone was difficult, doing my radio show.

“But I think life has a way of sort of telling you something and we all try to push forward too fast.

“I was trying to make the most of my opportunities without thinking about myself.”

Jason is now all set to embark on his Jason Donovan and His Amazing Midlife Crisis tour, which starts on the 13 February in Harpenden and ends in Milton Keynes in April.

He has also just been announced for Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of The Worlds – Alive On Stage.

Of the exciting news, he said: “I am delighted to be re-joining the cast for this very special 40th Anniversary Tour. The War of The Worlds has such enduring appeal and its fan base seems to grow and grow.”

Adam Garcia, Carrie Hope Fletcher and Newton Falkner are also on the line-up for the 40th Anniversary Tour.
