James Corden disgusts fans over insensitive jokes about sexual harassment scandal

It's not a subject to make light of

Comedian, actor and TV host James Corden is well-known for his somewhat controversial jokes, but this time it seems that he might have gone too far.

The Gavin and Stacey actor hosted the AmfAR Gala in Los Angeles and some of his chosen material referenced the recent sexual harassment allegations made against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

James said: “This is a beautiful room, it’s a beautiful night here in L.A. It’s so beautiful, Harvey Weinstein has already asked tonight up to his hotel to give him a massage.

He continued: “It has been weird this week though, watching Harvey Weinstein in hot water. Ask any of the women who watched him take a bath.

“Harvey Weinstein wanted to come tonight, but sadly he’ll settle for whatever potted plant is closest.”

The jokes come after three women this week accused the Hollywood mogul of rape, which Weinstein denies, and a number of other women, including A-listers Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie have come forward with allegations that the producer had behaved inappropriately towards them.

Insiders at the award’s show, which included a number of famous guests such as Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, were said to react uncomfortably, with a mixed reaction of awkward laughs and groans.

Outraged fans took to Twitter to express their disgust at Corden’s ill-timed and insensitive jokes.

One user said: “#JamesCorden have always loved this guy but to joke about a man accused of awful things against women is really below the belt #notimpressed”

“If serious accusations of sexual assault are turned into a joke, guess what happens? They’re not taken seriously. Stop it.” another added.

However, others seemed to praise The Late Late Show host for openly discussing the matter.

one person tweeted: “Love JKCorden for being the only late night host not afraid to make jokes and call him out unlike a lot of the hypocrites in Tinseltown.”
