| Updated:

Rumours are rife that a major announcement is about to come from Buckingham Palace.

The whispers come after the Queen’s entire household staff were summoned to a “highly unusual” emergency meeting at Buckingham Palace.

As reports emerged, onliners speculated that perhaps either HRH Elizabeth II or the Duke of Edinburgh were gravely ill or may have even died.

There were even rumours that the flag at the Palace was at half mast, which would suggest that there had been a death.

However, reports from the palace have confirmed  that the flag is currently at full mast – however it was noted that it would remain that way until an announcement was officially made.

It has also been reported that “unusual vehicles” have been seen driving into the palace.

A member of the public who lives locally to the palace Clive Annapolis told a Daily Star Online reporter: “I usually jog past here and I don’t see anything out of the ordinary.

“The guards are normally where they are standing – but I am not sure about the cars on the left.”

According to the MailOnline staff from royal residences across the country were ordered to London last night and are set be addressed this morning by the Lord Chamberlain, the most senior officer of the Royal Household, as well as Her Majesty’s right-hand man, Private Secretary Sir Christopher Geidt.

‘Everyone is on tenterhooks,’ said a palace source.

‘Although meetings involving the entire royal household are occasionally called, the way this has been done at the eleventh hour is highly unusual and suggests that there is something major to be disseminated.

“But at the moment, only those closest to her genuinely know what on earth this is all about.”

Staff from royal residences such as Windsor Castle and Sandringham have been asked to attend the meeting suggesting that that any announcement will affect them all.
