George Kay alleges ex Kerry Katona’s “alcoholism” is to blame for split

George claimed the singer is "an alcoholic" and "needs help"

George Kay has spoken about about his split from Atomic Kitten singer Kerry Katona and claims her “alcoholism” is to blame.

George and Kerry tied the knot in 2014 but split earlier this year as their marriage broke down.

Now George has spoken out to defend himself against the mum-of-five’s allegations that he was abusive towards her.

Kerry, 36, claimed she lived in “constant fear” during their marriage in an interview recently.

The boxer has now hit back at her allegations and blamed his ex-wife’s “alcoholic” behaviour for the reason behind their split.

He told the Daily Star: “I’m not trying to throw stones, but I’ve been painted as the pantomime villain for a long time and enough is enough.

“I’m not having Kerry saying things about me that aren’t true and that, more importantly, my daughter could read in the future.”

He went on to allege that he was the one that was forced to defend himself against her rages.

George continued: “Kerry’s drinking is out of control – she is an alcoholic and needs to get help.

“Being around her when she’s drinking to excess is awful – she is an absolute nightmare.

“She flips her lid about anything. She’ll scream and shout, then she gets very aggressive. I’ve had to report her to the police in the past.

“People think of her as this bubbly, lovable lass. But the reality is very different.”

A spokesperson for singer Kerry has since hit back at George’s claims telling The Sun: “Kerry utterly refutes this nonsensical story, which is the complete opposite of the true situation.

“The Star on Sunday conveniently ignores the fact that charges of serious assault on Kerry were only dropped when she declined to give evidence for the sake of her children.”

Back in July Kerry revealed her daughters Molly, 15, and Lilly-Sue, 14, had pleaded with her to leave George and made a series of accusations against her soon-to-be ex-husband.

The media personality told Sunday People: “I feel like the worst mother in the world and I will never forgive myself.

“No child should have to hear what they heard or see what they saw.

“I sat my Molly and Lilly down because they’re older and all I could do was profusely apologise to them.

“I said to the girls, ‘I’m so sorry I’ve let this go on for so long’.

“They said, ‘Why are you standing for this? Just leave him’.”

Kerry went on to accuse George of “spitting in my face all the time”.

She added: “He would spit in my face all the time and I would think that’s OK because he’s not giving me a hiding.

“But it’s one of the most degrading things you can have done to you.

“George likes to hold a grudge. He didn’t like me having friends. He wanted me all to himself.”

George strongly denies her claims.

During his talk with the Daily Star he said: “To say I’m controlling is just not true and so disappointing. I’ve been the only one looking out for her.

“People don’t realise how hard it is helping Kerry keep her image at a certain level – it’s a full time job.”

The former couple, who share daughter Dylan-Jorge together, went their separate ways in June.

Now, Kerry said she’s determined to learn lessons from what’s happened to her in this relationship.

She told Sunday People:  “I should have seen the warning signs and walked away.

“I don’t want my daughters to think it’s acceptable to be in a relationship like that or for my son to think it’s acceptable to treat women that way either.

“I feel like my life is about to begin for the better.”
