Feisty Viewer Blasted for Body Shaming TV News Anchor

Critics were not having it.

A TV viewer’s comments about a female news reporter on a Dallas television station have sparked outrage on social media.

Jan Shedd posted on social media on Wednesday calling out Channel 8’s new traffic reporter, Demetria Obilor, for her body shape and choice of clothing, calling her a “size 16/18 woman in a size 6 dress.”

Writing on her post, Shedd said: “Has anyone seen Channel 8’s new morning traffic reporter? Her name is Demetria Obilor & she’s a size 16/18 woman in a size six dress and she looks ridiculous,” Shedd wrote in the now-deleted post.

The post, which included a picture of traffic reporter Demetria in a form-fitting red dress, went on to say, “I understand that when I watch Channel 8 I’m going to get biased reporting and political correctness, but clearly they have taken complete leave of their senses. I’m not going to watch Channel 8 anymore.”

Unfortunately for Jan, the post was shared by Twitter user Mother of Draggings, who wrote: “Jan is big mad. Don’t be like Jan’ and the post went viral and social media land was NOT happy!

Obilor, 26, has only just joined the TV station and was previously a traffic reporter at KLAS-TV in Las Vegas.

She told NBC News that she had no idea about all the online support until she was made aware of the post on Friday.

She went on to say, “I'm not a 16/18, but even if I was, for you to try to call out my size like that to hurt me or discriminate against me, I'm not for that,"

She also revealed that she isn’t hurt by the comments and has thick skin.

“When you get older and you’re in the news, people warn you that, 'Hey, you're going to be under a harsh lens. People are going to critique you, people are going to say mean things about you,'" she said.
