Fears mount for Sinead O’Connor as troubled singer reveals she is suicidal in heartbreaking video on Facebook

Irish star speaks of mental-illness hell

Fans of Sinead O’Connor will be on red alert after the tortured singer posted another harrowing video on social media.

The mother-of-four has a history of mental illness, and back in May we reported how she’d threatened to kill herself if she wasn’t granted access to her youngest son.

Shane, 13, has been placed in the care of child and family agency Tusla.

And, although Sinead, 50, seemed to perk up a little after that incident, explaining that she was getting excellent care from her doctors, her mental health seems to have nosedived again – and the latest video is her most distressing one yet.

In the 12-minute clip, the Nothing Compares 2 U singer pours her heart out – and cries her eyes out – as she describes her current predicament.

Explaining that she’s spent the last two years “wandering the world alone” following a well-documented spat with members of her family, she sobs: “I’m all by myself.

“And there’s absolutely nobody in my life except my doctor, my psychiatrist – the sweetest man on Earth, who says I’m his hero – and that’s about the only thing keeping me alive at the moment… and that’s kind of pathetic.”

“I am now living in a Travelodge motel in the [expletive] end of New Jersey.

“I want everyone to know what it’s like – that’s why I’m making this video.”

She then goes on to talk about her struggle with bipolar disorder.

“Mental illness, it’s like drugs,” she starts. “It doesn’t give a [expletive] who you are. And equally, what’s worse, it’s the stigma.

“And suddenly all the people that are supposed to be loving you and taking care of you are treating you like [expletive].

“I gave so much love in my life and I just can’t understand how a person can be left alone.”

Among those to express their concern over the video was fellow singer Annie Lennox.

The Eurythmics star wrote on Facebook: “I just watched this truly distressing call for help by Sinead O’Connor, from a motel room in New Jersey, where she says there’s no one there to help her, with the exception of a psychiatrist and a doctor.

“I realise that [Sinead] has some serious mental-health issues, but she appears to be completely out on a limb and I’m concerned for her safety.

“Are there no close friends or family who could be with her to give her some loving support? It’s terrible to see her in such a vulnerable state.”
