Fans turn on Jeremy McConnell after he returns to social media

The flippant nature of his post got people's goat

Jeremy McConnell has returned to social media after being given a suspended prison sentence for assaulting Stephanie Davis – and his first post isn’t what you might expect.

The model and former Celebrity Big Brother star, 27, took to Instagram yesterday, but not to speak about the court case or thank fans for their support.

Instead, he was endorsing a tooth-whitening device called Brighter White. Alongside a picture of himself beaming, he wrote: “Thank you to Brighter White – always keeping my teeth in top shape.”

And it’s fair to say the move hasn’t gone down well with the keyboard community.

Dubliner Jeremy disabled comments on Instagram, meaning fans couldn’t pass judgement on his post.

But, of course, Instagram isn’t the only social-media platform, and critics got around his comment ban by venting their annoyance on Twitter instead.

One person sneered: “What a sick individual,” while another said: “Horrifying stuff – shame on him.”

And the company he was endorsing was also targeted, with one person tweeting: “@BrighterWhite_ should be ashamed.”

Last week, Liverpool Magistrates Court heard that Jeremy had assaulted mother of his child Stephanie during a drink and drug-fuelled bust-up at her home on Merseyside in March.

He was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, and also ordered to undertake 200 hours of community service.

The pair, who met in the Celebrity Big Brother house in 2016, have a baby son together.

But following the trial, Steph posted on Instagram that she had miscarried a second child.

Pouring her heart out to fans, she wrote: “I feel numb inside and just want this nightmare to be over.”
