“I spent some time with him in Sicily last summer and I could tell he was totally in love,” said Sir Elton.

“He didn’t discuss much personally, but he said ‘I’m in love’ and I thought good for you.”

Referring to both Harry and his brother William, who is married to Kate, The Duchess of Cambridge, Elton said: “Both those boys seem to be ecstatically happy and that’s all you want people to be no matter who they are.

“When people get married you want them to last.

“I’m happy for him, I hope they have a wonderful day.”

Elton said that he didn’t know whether he’d be asked to play at Harry and Meghan’s wedding on May 19th – claiming it may not work with his schedule.

“Nobody’s been asked,” he said. “I’m playing in Vegas so I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Elton has been close with William and Harry since their childhood, due to his close friendship with their mother, Princess Diana.

He told Lorraine Kelly that he thinks Diana would be proud of both her sons, claiming that Harry in particular takes after the People’s Princess.

“She was loved by people because she had that great ability, which Harry has inherited, where she could walk in a room and make people feel like they’ve known her all their life.

“She was a great friend to me, we had our fall outs but we made up before the end. She would be proud of her boys and they’re doing a great job and I’m proud of them too.”

The iconic singer recently announced his plan to retire from touring, in order to spend more time with his family.

A health scare last year left him facing what was important in life, and contributed to him deciding he wanted to spend more time with husband, David Furnish and their two sons.
