EastEnders star quits to become a Hollywood superstar

The actor will leave screens in the spring.

Lee Ryan has quit EastEnders to pursue a Hollywood acting career.

The Blue boybander played Woody in the BBC soap up until last year when the bar manager left for a new job in Spain.

And now it’s been confirmed that he will make a brief comeback to the show, before leaving for good.

Lee told The Sun: “I cannot express enough gratitude to EastEnders for the opportunity they have given me.

“I’ve had a great time and loved every minute of it and I’m looking forward to my future projects.”

However, an insider revealed that Lee has his heart set on Hollywood with film roles in his sights.

A source told the newspaper that working on the show has given him the chance to make a real success of his acting career.

The insider added: “He’s enjoyed his time on the Square but he now feels ready to have a crack at Hollywood.”

Woody was last seen in the Square in November when his brief romance with Whitney Carter went all kinds of wrong.

Having made plans for a new life in Spain, Woody decided to abandon Whitney at the last minute with a note left on the window of the Walford tube station.

An EastEnders spokeswoman confirmed the news in a statement, saying: “We can confirm that Lee will be leaving EastEnders when his storyline concludes this spring.”
