Corrie’s Faye Brookes reveals fears her nine-year-brother would die from leukaemia

Actress was just a teenager when he was diagnosed

Coronation Street star Faye Brookes has revealed she feared her brother would die from his battle with leukaemia when he was just nine-years-old.

Faye, 29, was just 14-years-old when her brother, Jack, was diagnosed with the disease.

The actress revealed the cancer was “caught quickly” and Jack had a bone marrow transplant.

Speaking to the Express Faye, who plays Kate Connor in the ITV soap, revealed: “Our lives were taken over by hospitals and chemotherapy.

“My parents tried to protect me from it as much as possible but my mum was always at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital staying with Jack and my dad wanted to be there all the time too.

“It was caught quickly and he had a bone marrow transplant.”

She added: “But it was a terrible time, we thought at first he was going to die.

“We were all devastated. It was horrible to see him lose so much muscle and with his face puffy from the steroids and medication.”

Jack, who is now 25, was given the all clear on the diagnosis and has been in remission for the past seven years.

Meanwhile Faye opened up about her relationship with pop star Gareth Gates, 32.

She recently revealed why she didn’t want to tie the knot with Gareth.

She told Fabulous magazine: “We’ve talked about marriage and that day will come, I’m sure of it, but that’s for now.

“Every Valentine’s Day the conversation comes up. I’m like ‘Listen, I’m totally career-driven’ and he knows that.

“I’ve found the guy I want to spend the rest of my life with and if  he does propose, then it’s going to be a complete surprise.”

The couple opened up about their baby plans and starting a family together back in February.

Gareth and Faye revealed they “definitely want to have babies”.

The loved-up couple revealed all about their blossoming romance to OK! magazine.

Corrie star Faye said: “Gareth’s Valentine’s card made me cry like a baby as he wrote some beautiful words in it about how much he loves me.

“Gareth’s the one person I let my hair down with as I like to be in control, and I’m the one who keeps him in check!”

Faye went on to explain how Gareth’s sisters have just had babies and it is making them feel a little broody.

She said: “We’re definitely going to get married and have babies, we’re just not quite there yet.”
