Megyn Kelly Named Among TIME Magazine's 'Person of the Year'

The news has provoked a strong reaction.

This year TIME magazine hasn’t named a single “Person of the Year.” It has named several, including Today co-host Megyn Kelly.

On Wednesday, the publication unveiled its annual, highly anticipated cover, which features a group of women dubbed, “The Silence Breakers.”

They include celebrities, journalists and activists who have spoken out about alleged sexual harassment, abuse and assault leading to the fall of media giants that include movie mogul Harvey Weinstein and former Fox News star Bill O’Reilly.

Actress Ashley Judd and pop star Taylor Swift are both on the cover, and Megyn has been included and recognized in the accompanying article and video along with actors Rose McGowan, Alyssa Milano, Selma Blair and Terry Crews.

On Wednesday, the Today co-host featured many of the women on her show, Megyn Kelly Today,  including Tarana Burke – the activist who launched the #MeToo movement.

The newscaster discussed the Time article and told viewers: “You are looking at a group of brave women.

“Each one of whom has had their life deeply affected by alleged sexual misconduct of some kind."

The former Fox News host was recognized by TIME because she has spoken out, accusing former Fox News chairman Roger Ailes of sexually harassing her while she worked for the cable network.

Before he died in May this year, he denied her allegations.

Speaking to TIME about the #MeToo movement that has swept the nation, taking down powerful male figures across multiple industries, the 47-year-old mom-of-three said: "I have real doubts about whether we'd be going through this if Hillary Clinton had won, because I think that President Trump's election in many ways was a setback for women.”

Megyn added later: “I always thought maybe things could change for my daughter. I never thought things could change for me. Never.

“I believed the system was stacked against women, and the smart ones would understand how to navigate it... I'm starting to see it so differently.

“What if we did complain? What if we didn't whine, but insisted that those around us did better?”

Some people complained on social media that TIME included Megyn on its list. One tweeted: “Why the hell is Kelly Here?... WTF... she sticks her nose in everything... and just ruined the whole purpose of this cover...”

Another added: “Megyn Kelly may well be a victim of sexual harassment. But lest we forget – she stoked hate and fear and spread lies for ages at Fox.

“I think it will backfire tremendously if she tries to become a poster girl for this otherwise righteous cause.”
