Coleen Rooney’s sons may be going to school in the US now but they haven’t forgotten their roots!

Wayne, 32, joined the Everton youth team as a child and went on to become one of the club’s biggest stars before departing for Manchester United in 2004.

He returned to Everton in 2017 for a season before moving to the US where he now plays for Washington’s D.C. United.

Fans left a slew of comments on Coleen’s picture saying they’d noted the Everton kits (appropriately, the away kits!) and claiming “once a blue always a blue”.

One said: “Gorgeous photo. The boys look lovely in their Everton kits.”

The older boys recently started at their school in the US and the family have been settling into their new life.

They’ve also been doing a lot of sightseeing, taking in the incredible architecture and history of their new home city, and have watched Wayne playing for his new team.

Coleen and Wayne have even found time to hang out with Ed Sheeran after watching him in concert last week!

Most recently, Wayne scored twice to help D.C. United win 5-0 over Montreal Impact at the weekend.

Coleen has vowed it’s only a temporary move, however, as she’s too much of a homebird to make the jump from the UK to the US permanently.

She told Reveal magazine: “We’re not going forever. He’s got the contract and then after that, we’re coming home – that’s the nice thing about it.

“While we’re there, we’ve got to enjoy it and make the most of it. People keep saying, ‘You might love it that much you don’t want to come home.’ But home for me is home.

“I know I’ll definitely want to come back by the end of it.”

Wayne, meanwhile, recently told The Times he’s pleased the family are settling in so well in the US.

He also said life in Washington D.C. makes it easier to enjoy quality family time because he’s not approached as often when out and about as he would be back home in England.

“I can spend more time with my children, rather than looking over my shoulder. I can be more relaxed,” he explained.

“In England, you’re in a restaurant and, say they’re being naughty, like all children can be, and you have a few words with them… you’d always have to be aware in case somebody’s filming and the next thing it’s all over social media.”
