Cheryl and Liam name their son after a surprise TV star

An odd name - might not have been our choice.

| Updated:

Cheryl and Liam Payne have called their son – wait of it –  Bear Payne.

Well, according to reports anyway.

Although it sounds very odd indeed – though a lot better on the ear than the rumoured Taylor Payne – it appears to be the name that most celebs love naming their kids these days.

Not only did ctress Kate Winslet, 41, and her husband Ned Rocknroll named their son Bear Blaze in 2013, so too did actress Alicia Silverstone, 40, who called her wee one Bear Blu in 2011.

But that’s not all. Take That’s Howard Donald called his son Dougie Bear while 41-year-old Chef Jamie Oliver’s six-year-old son Buddy has Bear as a middle name.

It’s believed that the trend for this name is all down to TV adventurer  Bear Grylls.

And we guess if you’re going to have a son, then naming him after a very brave man who can look after himself in the wild is a good idea.

Of course this is just a rumour so far, so Bear might just be another rumour so we are still waiting for Chez and Liam to confirm.

It would seem that Cheryl and Liam are playing the silent game again, just as they did during her pregnancy.

Since ‘Bear’ was born on March 22, they have been very sparing with info.

After the birth they issued the statement with a pic of Liam holding their pride and joy.

“On Wednesday 22nd March Liam and I became parents to an incredibly beautiful, healthy baby boy, weighing 7lb 9 and looking like a dream,” they wrote.

Cheryl then added shortly before Mother’s Day: “Although he still doesn’t have a name he is already stealing hearts.

“We are all madly in love and overwhelmingly happy with our little arrival. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers around the world. A day that now has a different meaning to me forever.”

Meanwhile, Liam gushed: “My close friends and family know there are very few times when I’m left speechless… wow!

“I’m incredibly happy to welcome our new baby boy into the world, it’s a moment that I will never forget for the rest of my life and my favourite memory I have so far.

“I’m completely in awe of his incredible mother and how she has been the whole way through this, she’s really made my dreams come true.

“We haven’t named him yet but he’s already capturing hearts including mine. I feel very blessed.”
