She was going through a tough time

Trolls on social media have criticised Carol Vorderman’s recent appearance on The One Show, but the TV star has hit back.

Her pre-recorded segment was filmed in July but it was shown on the BBC show last Friday.

Some viewers cruelly mocked the way she looked, saying her face looked ‘puffy’.

But Carol has now made a statement about why she might not have looked her best, as she was still grieving the death of her beloved mother.

The segment was filmed just a few weeks after her mum died from cancer.

She said she was saddened to read the horrible comments from bullies online.

She tweeted last night: “Am in San Diego.Just seen this. Sad.Filmed early July, just 2-3 wks after Mum’s funeral when still grieving badly.

“On medication at the time, no sleep, heartbroken.Face puffy, eyes red and generally looking a mess? Yes. But that was months ago….”

She then reiterated that she is looking much better now, by tweeting more recent pictures.

The pictures showed Carol smiling, looking slimmer and happier, so that should shut the trolls up!

She then received a lot of support from fans who said she should “ignore the idiots”.

One fan replied to her tweet saying: “You really don’t have to explain to anyone. Keep flying high.”

Another said: “Deepest sympathies for your loss, Carol. Ignore the idiots, you look fab.”

A third said: “You always look lovely regardless but it frustrates me that some folk feel they need to or are in a position to pass judgment on others.”

A fourth supportive fan said: “Carol, you still look great. I lost my wife nearly 3 years ago and still cannot come to terms with the loss. You sexy wonderful person.”

“Take no notice Carol you always look fab regardless your kindness always shines through too They’re called trolls for a reason,” said a fifth.

“Rest In Peace Jean Vorderman. You will always be loved.”
