Big Brother winner Craig Phillips makes heartwarming gesture on wedding day

Congratulations!

| Updated:

Original Big Brother winner Craig Phillips has married fiancée Laura Sherriff in a romantic Cheshire ceremony.

And rather than making a wedding gift list, the generous couple instead asked guests to donate to charity.

Craig and his new bride Laura requested donations be made to the Helen and Douglas House in Oxford, which provides and care and support for terminally ill babies, children, young adults and their parents.

In an interview with the Oxford Mail, builder Craig said Laura’s young brother, Daniel, had been diagnosed with a brain tumour shortly after birth.

At just three years old, he was moved to hospice care.

Craig said: “Within 10 minutes of his arrival the hospice had done what the local doctors couldn’t, they gave Daniel a place to find comfort and gave Laura’s family the chance make the most of the time they had left with their son.”

Laura’s wedding dress will also be auctioned to raise funds.

A JustGiving page has been set up by the couple, which says: “All money generously donated will also go towards helping many families lives a little more possible in such unbearable times and provide a strong unit of support and love through treatment and beyond.

“This place really is heaven on earth with many angels. Every penny counts!

“We sincerely thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

The couple, who became engaged in Australia in 2016, tied the knot at Peckforton Castle on Friday.

According to reports, they will now enjoy a snowboarding honeymoon in Colorado.

Craig shot to fame as the first-ever winner of Big Brother back in 2000.

He famously donated his entire £70,000 prize to his friend, Joanne Harris, to help pay for a heart and lung transplant operation in America.

Within six days of Big Brother ending he had raised the full £250,000 she needed.

What an incredible man.

After Big Brother, the fan favourite went on to build a successful career as a DIY expert on a range of TV shows.

He and Laura are now working on a new project called Mr and Mrs DIY, where they will offer tips and advice on DIY via social media, in a bid to make DIY accessible to everyone. Good luck, guys!
