Becky Vardy’s ex claims she left him because he ‘wasn’t rich enough’

Her agent's issued a sassy response to the allegations

One of Rebekah Vardy’s former flames has alleged the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star ended their romance because he wasn’t wealthy enough.

Former footballer John Carey has told The Sun that he and Becky enjoyed a fling between 2006 and 2007, when they were neighbours in Witney, Oxford.

But their affair reportedly came to an end when John’s cash flow dried up.

According to John, he was still married when he began seeing single Becky – although in his head, the marriage was over.

He told the newspaper he splashed the cash on Becky at first, lavishing her with gifts and treats, but once he split from his wife, he had less money to spend on her.

“When I first met Rebekah she told me she had been with Peter Andre, and kept name dropping. I think she was under the impression I had some money, with the house and new cars,” he said.

“Rebekah had a false illusion of what was mine and what wasn’t. When I split from the wife, I ended up staying with mates. Rebekah probably realised I wasn’t the money man she thought I was.”

He added: “She wanted to have a lifestyle that I couldn’t provide, so she left me.”

Of course, given Becky’s in the Aussie jungle right now, she hasn’t been able to respond to John’s claim.

But her agent issued a rather sassy comment on her behalf.

The rep said: “If she was living alone at the time and he claims his marriage was over, then we can’t really see any point in the couple even talking about it.

“Becky did remark on having had awful things ‘in her mouth before’ on her Bushtucker trial this week, perhaps he could be what she was referring to?”

While Becky hasn’t commented on John’s claims, she told the camp last week she’s not interested in wealth – despite how she is often portrayed.

She’s now married to England and Leicester City footballer Jamie Vardy.

“The term WAG is so ridiculous. I still shop in Next, I work, I earn my own money and use it to pay for my children’s education,” she said.

“And yet, I still get called a gold digger, and told I’m only with Jamie for his money.”

Becky also said in the jungle this week she thinks people associate her more with charity work these days.

She told the camp: “I’m obviously really well known for being married to Jamie, but also now people recognise me for my charity work and the kids I do work with.

“I think it’s important to become recognised for the stuff you personally do.”

I’m A Celebrity continues 9pm on ITV.
