Actress chronicles brave battle with breast cancer

Actress Shannen Doherty has shared candid images of her undergoing chemo sessions.

Actress Shannen Doherty has given fans a brave insight into her battle with breast cancer.

The Beverly Hills, 90210 star posted photos whlie undergoing grueling chemotherapy sessions.

Wearing no make-up and with swollen eyes, Shannen, 45, looks into the lens as her mom Rosa sits behind her.

In the post on Instagram she captions the photo: ‘Chemo day. Woke up with puffy eyelids, eyes that won’t stop watering and a big desire to stay home…… #themanyfacesofcancer #fightlikeagirl.’

Brave Shannen managed a smile as she held the camera and is seen wearing a Paisley print black and white scarf on her shaved head.

Her mother meanwhile looks sad as she sits in a chair with her cell phone in her hand.

A week ago Shannen shared a similar image, this time with her husband Kurt Iswarienko.

He is seen tenderly kissing her forehead.

‘There are many faces to cancer. This is one of them. Chemo Day With @kurtiswarienko by my side. August 10, 2016,’ the actress captioned the photo.

Shannen has a scarf covering her shaved head and is fresh faced.

Wearing a white shirt with a denim blouse and a blanket on her lap the once raven-haired beauty looks comfortable.

In another image, the Charmed star is seen getting injected.

Shannen’s caption reads: ‘The many faces of cancer. Chemo Day. What we call the Red Devil being injected into me via the port thats in my chest. Dawn is my nurse who takes excellent care of me August 10, 2016 #cancersucks #fightlikeagirl.’

These images come after the TV star was seen with pal Anne Marie Kortright at Nobu in Malibu.

The beauty said she was ‘feeling good enough to eat.’

Posing for a picture on the restaurant’s balcony overlooking the beach, the star posed for a photo with her friend.

She captioned the sweet picture: ‘Love girls night with @annemkortright helping me celebrate feeling good enough to eat before Wednesday’s chemo. #bff #fightlikeagirl #cancersucks #warrior.’

In August TMZ reported the actress had reached a settlement with her former manager over her health insurance being allowed to lapse.

Shannen filed her $15m lawsuit in 2015 claiming her manager Steven Blatt let her health insurance lapse during a crucial time when she should have been visiting a doctor.

She argued if she’d had health insurance and been to a regular doctor visit, her cancer would have been detected earlier and her odds at beating the disease would have been greater.

Shannen confirmed in August of last year that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and was undergoing treatment.

And ever since the actress has been determined to be open about her cancer fight.

Earlier this month she revealed during an interview with Entertainment Tonight that her cancer has spread despite a single mastectomy she underwent in May.

‘I had breast cancer that spread to the lymph nodes, and from one of my surgeries we discovered that some of the cancer cells might have actually gone out of the lymph nodes; so for that reason, we are doing chemo, and then after chemo, I’ll do radiation,’ she said.

Shannen, who has shaved her head after losing her hair as a result of the chemotherapy, credited the doctor who performed the surgery with ensuring she felt comfortable with her body after the operation.

‘He didn’t want me to wake up with absolutely nothing,’ she told ET. ‘It was very important to him that I didn’t have that experience, and so he put an expander in so I have a tiny something there. It’s cute and sometimes we fill it up and make it bigger and sometimes we reduce it.’

Shannen added: ‘I’m being so personal right now, but I think a lot of women can probably go, “Yeah, I’ve been through that.” It’s great though, you get to pick out what size you want.’
