Cheryl opens up about coping as a new mum

The singer admits her beauty regime went out the window!

She welcomed baby Bear with partner Liam Payne last year and now Cheryl has spoken out about life as a new mum.

The Fight For The Love singer, 34, has admitted for the first six months, she didn’t have time to do anything but devote her attention to her little one.

“If it got to one o’clock and I’d brushed my teeth I was winning,” she told The Mirror, as she revealed any beauty regime she once kept up went out the window when she became a parent.

She added that her whole body felt “ravaged” by pregnancy and her “whole being was different.” She lost some of her hair and she no longer has the time or energy to do her nails.

But she’s since found exercising has helped her feel fit and healthy again and more like her old self.

“My body is used to it, and I enjoy it,” she said of taking up exercise again after five months off.

“Not only for how I look, but also how I feel. Just having that one hour to myself to exercise while the baby was napping was heaven for me. I had that peace of mind, that freedom. He was sleeping regular nap times, so I’d just take the baby monitor into the room and exercise.”

However, Cheryl urged other mums not to feel under pressure to work out if they don’t feel like it, or to do it for “aesthetic reasons”.

“Do it for your health and your mental health. If you don’t feel that’s what you can or should do when your baby’s small, don’t do it,” she urged.

She added that getting back into exercise was easier for her because she was used to it having been fit before motherhood, and because she was lucky that Bear started sleeping through the night from seven-weeks-old.

Cheryl has gradually been getting back into work since Bear turned one in March.

She’s filmed a pilot for a new BBC dance show, in which she could be a coach, and has been working on her new album.

She’s also opened a centre in Newcastle with the support of the Prince’s Trust to help young people gain employment.

On Friday, it was rumoured she was in talks to join the cast of West End show Chicago, but her rep told ED! this wasn’t true.

There’s also been talk of her returning to The X Factor as a judge, after it was confirmed last week that Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger would not be returning to the new series.

Cheryl recently attended the Cannes Film Festival as an ambassador for L’Oreal, where she told Glamour magazine the direction she’d like to take with her career in the future.

“I’ve crammed quite a lot in over the last 16 years so I’ve done quite a lot of the stuff that was my dream but I still have a lot of creativity.

“So, work-wise, I’d maybe like to manage other artists or help on the record label side or directing with an artistic eye,” she said.
