X Factor contestant shocks judges with love song dedicated to EASTENDERS couple

The love is strong

| Updated:

Jaded viewers of The X Factor will be oh-so-familiar with those wannabe contestants who waddle on stage and try to pull at the heartstrings of the judges by dedicating their chosen song to a loved one.

You know like, a beloved boyfriend or girlfriend, a dead grandma or a poorly pet fish.

But this year we have been impressed to see that one contestant either has their priorities right and or is just totally ridiculous.

Student Benji Matthews from Cornwall rocked up to the Wembley tryouts this week and left Simon Cowell and his fellow judges giggling when he took to the stage to impress them with his vocals and self-penned song.

When asked about what he had written the song about, he said he was singing a love song and that it was dedicated to someone very special.

But when they found out who the song was for, they couldn’t contain themselves.

It turned out that Benji was dedicating the song to EastEnders ledge and professional cockney Danny Dyer and TV wife Kellie Bright.

At first Simon looked aghast, and admitted that he wasn’t a regular viewer of the miserable soap.

He told Benji: “Well, that’s hardly Romeo And Juliet.”

But when the young lad belted out the song Simon and the judges were won over and put him through to the next round.

In fact Simon actually told the talented fella that his performance was “the best audition of the day”.

But Benji wasn’t the only contestant to feel the warmth of the judging panel.

One contestant called Hannah from Yorkshire who was trying her luck at stardom on her 16th birthday got more than she bargained for.

Before she uttered a note, Nicole serenaded her with a tuneful version of Happy Birthday!

What a lucky girl eh?

We can see these joyous moments when the next series of The X Factor launches in August!
