Piers Morgan apologises on-air for name gaffe during Oscars blunder discussion

The host apologised for his mistake

| Updated:

During today’s episode of Good Morning Britain, host Piers Morgan apologised to his director after a mistake he had made.

Yes, you read that right. Piers Morgan. APOLOGISING.

The presenter, sitting alongside Susanna Reid and Charlotte Hawkins, was discussing last night’s huge blunder at the Oscars.

Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling hot favourite La La Land was mistakenly announced as the winner of Best Picture at the ceremony when, in fact, Moonlight was the actual winner.

But, it turned out, Piers made a mistake himself while reporting on the Hollywood gaffe – by calling the film’s producer by the wrong name.

And – weirdly – he actually held his hands up to the error.

The 51-year-old said: “I’ve got an apology. You know when you get into the territory of correcting people, live on air, and you’re not 100% sure, you’re kinda 99.9% sure?

“So I just harangued my director, Erron Gordon, live on air for trying to tell me the producer of La La Land was in fact Jason Horowitz, and in fact it is Jordan Horowitz.”

He added: “So now I have to do a really uncomfortable thing. I have to apologise to my director Erron Gordon, which is something I never thought I’d do.

“I don’t want to do it.”

Co-host Susanna Reid jokingly said: “It’s like we’re reenacting the Oscars blunder live on air this morning.”

Piers replied: “I’m owning my mistake.

“It may be all over, there’s no way back from this.”

WHAT? Come on, Piers, it’s not that bad. We’re pretty sure it’s not worth resigning over. You should know…

Viewers were quick to take to Twitter to share their thoughts on Piers’ mistake and subsequent apology.

One said: “@GMB hahaha Piers is wrong, it’s Jordan Horowitz.”

Even Piers’ director tweeted saying: “@piersmorgan IT WAS JORDAN thank you @GMB.”

Piers replied to this with angry face emojis.

Meanwhile others were quick to attack Piers after the discussion of the Oscars.

One said: “@GMB will someone tell Piers to shut up !!!!”

Another added: “@GMB had to turn over this morning to the dreaded BBC. Piers Morgan shouting over everyone. Shut up. Let someone else speak.”

A third said: “@GMB Piers, for you to gloat so persistently at other people’s misfortune, you must be a really mean person. You should try to be kind.”

What a day.
