Explaining her controversial decision Eimear, who doesn’t agree with children being at weddings, said: “She took it amazingly and was really understanding.

“And I explained it to her that I didn’t want the focus to be on her and wanted it to be on us.

“I also didn’t want her to be under pressure to have to get into a dress seven weeks after giving birth.”

Ruth, 57, looked shocked at Eimear’s comments as she said: “How on earth do you say to your best friend ‘I don’t want you there now’?”

Eimear replied: “We’ve always had a really honest relationship and she was really understanding.”

Eimear went on to explain that her pal, Anne, was still at the wedding and “agreed to be my witness instead”.

Viewers were shocked at Eimear’s comments with one tweeting: “I loved having friends’ kids at my wedding! I couldn’t imagine banning them! Some people are so self-involved. #ThisMorning.”

“I plan on having both my young children at my wedding and friends and family’s children! Why shouldn’t they be a part #ThisMorning,” another agreed.

A third said: “A wedding is a family celebration including children. #thismorning.”

A fourth added: “Imagine being so insecure about being upstaged by a child you ban them from your own wedding #ThisMorning.”

While others seemed to agree with her remarks.

One said: “I once went to a wedding that had 22 kids there! & not 1 of their parents had a good day… it’s was stressful & chaos #ThisMorning [sic].”

Another added: “Surely this is the one day a couple can be selfish? It’s their wedding day! #ThisMorning.”

“#ThisMorning totally agree with no kids at wedding, I just had my Nieces & Nephews. Was fab that way,” a third tweeted.
