Piers Morgan branded “sexist” after female boxing comments

What was he thinking?!

GMB’s Piers Morgan has yet again managed to send Twitter into chaos after giving his views on women’s boxing.

The star’s definitely no stranger to giving his honest opinion, but it’s Piers, so of course he had to say something controversial.

Olympian Nicola Adams, 34, joined hosts Piers and Susanna Reid on the GMB sofa to talk about the sport.

And it’s safe to say Piers slightly put his foot in it after he admitted he didn’t like “watching women punch each other”.

Team GB’s Steve and Hannah Backshall also joined the morning talk show.

Steve told Piers that he was being “sexist” with his views and that he saw no difference between men and women boxing.

Following his comments he made ahead of the interview with Nicola, Piers took to Twitter to ask his 5.56 million followers what they thought.

He wrote: “I don’t like watching women punching each other. Does that make me sexist? Debate with @NicolaAdamsOBE next.. @GMB.”

Twitter then went into complete meltdown and the 51-year-old’s tweet racked up a wave of conflicting opinions.

Despite some agreeing with Piers, many Twitter users disagreed with the star and agreed with Steve.

One viewer wrote: “@piersmorgan I would love to see piers on the jump or should I say getting jump with a mob of women for his sexist comment’s.”

Another said: “@piersmorgan You are sexist. Just are. Irrespective of what you like or dislike.”

Going into the interview with Nicola, Piers tried to explain his point of view and despite boxing promoter Frank Warren admitted Nicola had changed his view on women’s boxing, Piers maintained his stance, of course.

Viewers were so angry with the presenter’s comments, that one even went as far as to say Piers made her tune out.

They wrote: “Thought I’d try to watch GMB again this a.m after a 6 mth break..Piers Morgan still as repulsive,so I’ve scuttled back to the BBC.Phew.”

Another furiously wrote: “@GMB @SteveBackshall Please, just get rid of him!!! #LoathsomeHypocrit #Scum.”

But some viewers took to Twitter to defend the star, something that only usually happens on rare occasions!

One wrote: “@GMB @SteveBackshall @piersmorgan Not sexist at all. People are allowed not to find something comfortable. Got it very wrong there Steve!”

Another wrote: “@GMB @SteveBackshall @piersmorgan Don’t like men punching men either. That’s just me. No, don’t think P Morgan is sexist!”

What seemed most bizarre though, was the fact that Susanna Reid was ON Piers’ side, and said that she didn’t think he was being sexist at all.

Oh no, she’s gone over to the dark side…
