Phillip Schofield hits out at real-life ‘Apple Tree Yard’ wife

This Morning host makes his feelings perfectly clear!

| Updated:

While viewers are gripped by Sunday night drama Apple Tree Yard, Phillip Schofield had some choice words for the real life adulterer who appeared on This Morning today.

Calling her “selfish” and hitting out at the fact she was “having her cake and eating it”, Phillip put the woman, whose face and voice were disguised from the camera, on the spot about the amount of people she was hurting.

While the woman sat in front of Phil, his co-host Holly Willoughby, and agony aunt Deirdre Sanders, explaining she’d been cheating on her husband for the last three years, both Holly and Phil were visibly angry at her story.

When she said her affair made her “a better wife and mother”, Holly retorted:

“Why not just get divorced and not have this big secret?”

“I think it’s kinder not to get divorced,” the woman, dubbed ‘Pamela’ replied. “It hurts less people. Because you’re not just divorcing your husband, you’re divorcing your children, your friends, the community you’re in, so surely it’s kinder when no one knows?”

But Phillip wasn’t interested in her explanations and hit back:

“It’s just selfish.

“Because your children are grown up so they have they own lives, your friends will probably stick with you, you’ll probably lose the house – you’re basically having your cake and eating it.”

‘Pamela’ wasn’t bothered by Phil’s harsh words though, biting back:

“In some ways I think, well why not have my cake and eat it?

“I think that’s okay and I really know I’m a better person for what I’m doing.

“I’m not nagging my husband, I’m not having a go at him, I’m happy, I make his dinner when he comes home.

“That frisson that I’ve had during the day has made me this smiley, happier person.”

Apple Tree Yard sees Emily Watson’s married research scientist Yvonne Carmichael, embark on a thrilling sexual affair with the mysterious Mr X, played by Ben Chaplin.

At the start of the racy series, we met Yvonne handcuffed and in a police van, but we still don’t know what she’s done to be there.

The end of the first episode saw her raped by a colleague in shocking scenes, but whether this, or her affair, are linked to her arrest remains to be seen.

But with Holly and Phil’s clear disgust for adultery, it’s nice to know there’s some faithful people still out there.
