The 14-year-old was bullied on social media

Phillip Schofield is used to conducting heart-rending interviews on This Morning.

But even consummate professionals have a breaking point, and the veteran presenter apparently reached his today as he interviewed a bereaved mum.

Nicola Evans joined Phil and Holly in the studio to discuss her teenage daughter’s suicide.

Megan, 14, killed herself after enduring horrendous bullying on social media.

Her devastated mother explained that, just before she took her life, Megan received a text message saying, ‘Why don’t you hang yourself?’

“And Megan replied, ‘OK, I will,” Nicola added.

While Holly Willoughby was rendered speechless by the devastating revelation, Phillip choked up and said: “It’s got all of us.”

The grieving mum paid tribute to her daughter, adding: “Megan was bright, vivacious, hugely popular, sporty, confident, outgoing, fiercely independent, just a normal teenager.

“She was constantly on Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram. It’s part of the social make-up at the moment.

“There’s a lot of pressure to be on social media. It’s just the norm.”

But things obviously took a dark turn for Megan, as she was targeted by bullies sending vile messages.

Nicola explained she only discovered what was going on after Megan had died: “A few of her friends contacted me and said she was being relentlessly bullied via social media… day and night. Cruel, evil words.

Her daughter never gave away the anguish she was going through.

“She would carry on ordinary day to day life, she’d be happy,” added her mum.

“We’re all distraught, and angry, because no one noticed anything different with her.”
