Teenager fought a four-year-battle with rare form of illness

After Callie Blackwell’s received the news her son only had three days to live she made a decision which ended up curing the cancer that was killer him.

Desperate Callie gave her son cannabis oil just to ease his symptoms, after he suffered with immense pain, but she believes it led to his amazing recovery.

The brave mum revealed after three unsuccessful bone marrow transplants she felt she had nothing to lose.

Appearing on This Morning she told Holly and Phil: “Honestly the effects of it blew my mind. It wasn’t what I expected.

“We noticed within half an hour he was chilled out, the anxiety stopped, he was able to relax.”

What made this story heartbreaking was that Deryn and his beloved mother had even prepared his funeral after he was moved to a children’s hospice.

Deryn, who was first diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of 10, told the hosts: “I planned my funeral. It was gonna be fancy dress and I’d chosen all the costumes for people.”

Talking about how she came to the decision of treating her son with cannabis, Callie explained:

“When his secondary cancer arrived, I turned to the internet and cannabis just kept popping up, but I would dismiss it and dismiss it.

“The morphine wasn’t working against his hands or stomach, so I asked for a cannabis-based product and she said, ‘We can’t because it hasn’t been licensed for children’.”

But after taking matters into her own hands Callie revealed: “I thought, ‘What have I got to lose?'”
