This Morning’s Phillip Schofield has on-air meltdown

Normally cool presenter wasn't happy with scriptwriter after stumbling over his lines

He’s the consummate professional – normally – but Pip Schofield had a meltdown live on air when he stumbled over his lines.

The This Morning stalwart was introducing the Christmas TV segment, when he said, “As the Birds of a Feather flock together and Blankety Blank returns to our screens, Sharon Marshall has picked out her top TV shows to watch this Christmas.”

He then began to shake his head as he continued: “She’s bringing us all that plus the festive soap shockers in just…”

The presenter then broke off from his script to exclaim, “Who the hell wrote this? Are you trying to get me to swear?”

His co-host Holly Willoughby and Sharon were giggling their heads off as Phillip appeared to grow more irate.

He shook his head as he added: “Talk about on thin ice!”

We can just imagine some poor scriptwriter quaking in their boots about impending unemployment over the festive period.

At this point, the show cut to Loose Women to hear what they had coming up and Ruth Langsford joked: “We were feeling your pain there, Phillip… that sounded like a Sharon Marshall script to me!”

Perhaps Phil was feeling a little crotchety after an earlier strand on the show.

He and Holly disagreed over acceptable behaviour at a work Christmas party.

Phil postured whether a little kiss with a colleague under the mistletoe was really so unforgivable.

Happily married Holly exclaimed: “No!”

Phil then teased: “Not even a little peck? How far CAN you go under the mistletoe?”

His horrified co-presenter replied: “You’re not allowed to snog! And also intent is a bad thing as it isn’t just about the kiss.

“It’s that you’ve made a series of decisions leading up to that point.”

We reckon Phil might be in for a grilling from the wife when he gets home from the ITV Christmas party tonight.
