Maria Connor WILL return to Coronation Street soon

We thought she'd been away for MUCH longer.

When Corrie’s Maria Connor was sent to prison for a year at Christmas, fans worried this would be the last we’d see of the popular character.

But it looks like she’ll be returning to our screens sooner than we thought as she’s set to come back to the cobbles after only two months in jail.

Her comeback will be within weeks rather than the months we’d first thought.

However, there’s one condition to her release – she has to wear an electronic ankle tag.

Maria was sentenced to 12 months when the judge decided to make an example of her after she admitted to having a sham marriage with her friend Pablo so he could enter the country and be with his boyfriend.

But it seems like she’s been getting on all right in prison, and will be released for good behaviour much earlier than predicted.

The first glimpse we’ll get of the jailbird comes next week when friend Eva Price takes Maria’s son Liam to visit his mum.

When the youngster spots his mother he throws himself into her arms and Maria realises just how hard she’s finding being away from him.

Little Liam then asks if he can stay with Aidan and Eva instead of his uncle Kirk, and Maria is forced to mask her guilt about Aidan – who also secretly visited her – as she reluctantly agrees.

How will Aidan react to the news his old flame’s son is coming to live with them?

And how will he feel when he sees Maria herself back on the Street in the coming weeks?

Can these two resist each other for Eva’s sake? Or is Maria set to betray the one friend who’s stood by her through it all?
