Love Island winners confirm they have split

After an "amazing summer together" they've called it quits

Nathan Massey and Cara de la Hoyde have split up after getting together on Love Island 2016.

The pair have been denying reports that they had gone their separate ways, but Nathan confirmed the news on Instagram on Wednesday.

He shared the sad news with a solemn photograph of him walking down the street on his phone, and wrote: “The worst feeling in the world is when you know that you both love each other, but still you can’t be together!

He added: “Me and Cara have split, we’ve had the summer of our lives together, but sadly come to a end, I wish her the best for the future 💔”

Cara, 26, posted a message that hinted at the split yesterday: “Any more knocks this week?”

The brunette beauty then went on Twitter to share another message to her fans.

“Me & nath have split 💔 sometimes love just isn’t enough, but what will be will be ❤️ thankyou for everyone’s support lately 👌🏽,” she wrote.

After the news was made public, the former couple’s Love Island co-star and good friend Olivia Buckland shared her support for them both.

“Nothing changes my friendship with these two beautiful people @Miss_Delahoyde @NathanMassey_ love you both dearly ❤⭐”

The pair would have celebrated their first anniversary on 29 May, which is the date that they fell for each other on Love Island. They stole everybody’s hearts and went on to win the show, and the £50,000 prize money.

The feisty couple were recently photographed having an explosive row while on holiday.

They were later rumoured to have been living separately. Cara moved in with a close friend while Nathan, 24, moved some of his belongings out of their Essex home, according to The Mirror.

Although the specific reasons behind the split aren’t yet known, there is a chance that people will be able to find out on an upcoming episode of Towie.
