Lee Carter to return to EastEnders

Is his exit just temporary?

He hasn’t actually left EastEnders yet, but actor Danny-Boy Hatchard, who plays Lee Carter is already planning a return to the soap.

The character is set to leave this month after three years on screen, but although the actor’s keen to take on other projects, a future comeback is definitely in his plans.

With his on-screen family remaining in Walford, he’d always have something to come back to. But what about his long-suffering wife, Whitney?

Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday about his exit, Danny-Boy said:

“I feel it’s the right time to leave, but it’s bye for now, not forever.”

Fans were convinced last month that it would be Lee who perished in EastEnders big bus crash.

Whitney’s phone was heard ringing from under the bus and speculation immediately began that Lee had picked it up by mistake and it was actually him under there.

It turned out not to be the case, Lee was far away from the Square at the time of the disaster. And Danny-Boy was as relieved as everyone else that his character didn’t meet his maker under that double decker.

“If Lee was to be killed off, I would be upset and that would be the end of the road,” he told the publication. “I think it’s never a blessing when a character is killed off.

“I’m also quite open-minded to the fact that if they ever brought Lee back it could be with me or somebody else.”

With a musical gig under his belt in his post-EastEnders’ career, Danny-Boy admitted he’s excited about what the future holds for him.

“I’m looking forward to going off and doing some other stuff,” he said. “I’m waiting for the right project.”

As Lee and Whitney struggle to hold their relationship together, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be a happy ending for them.

An attempt at romance with a Valentine’s night out is set to end in yet another argument for the couple.

Is this what finally drives Lee away from Walford?
