Kym Marsh offered an amazing deal to stay on at Coronation Street!

The singer-turned-actress has impressed with her emotional performances

That well-trodden path of pop singer to TV star has never been an easy one.

Just ask Sarah Harding, who, bless her, is still in self-imposed hiding after her disastrous stint on Corrie.

But there have been some who have managed to make that difficult transition with ease and success.

Take Keith Duffy, for example, who proved a viewer favourite on Corrie as Ciaran McCarthy back in 2002.

X Factor alumnus Shayne Ward is another crooner who has convinced us as an actor, currently playing Aidan Connor on the cobbles and even winning a Best Newcomer NTA back in 2016.

But by far the most celebrated and best-loved pop singer-to-actor is the fiery Kym Marsh, the former Hear’Say singer, one time Eurovision hopeful and short-lived songstress (who can forget her great single Cry? Oh, you have? YouTube it! It’s a corker!)

As you all know, she’s been in Corrie for eleven years now, but it’s been her recent performances as Michelle Connor losing her baby son that have impressed bosses so much that they have offered her an amazing deal to stay in the show until 2018.

Producers have told her that they think she can handle anything as an actress and plan to give her some really tough storylines to get  her teeth into. (ARE there any tougher ones?)

Although they already knew she was a brilliant and accomplished thesp, it was her heartrending performances ofso far this year that have really made them sit up and go “Wow!” – along with the rest of us.

“The bosses are delighted with Kym,” a source has told the Express.

“Over the past year she has been handed some really challenging storylines, and she has handled them all brilliantly.

“Michelle has supported Steve through depression, married him and fallen pregnant with his child.

“But it was the miscarriage scenes that really blew them away.

“What’s more, they had a huge impact on viewers, many of whom got in touch to say how moved they were.

“Over the years Michelle has become a real Street favourite and everyone is pleased that Kym has signed for another year.”

Bosses are now in the process of dreaming up some amazing plots that they hope will turn Kym into the new Bet Lynch of the soap.

Following on from the heartrending scenes in which she lost her baby, and her split from Steve after she discovered he had fathered Leanne’s baby,  viewers will watch Michelle battle for ownership of The Rovers.

And it looks like there could be love on the cards for her character too! (Fingers crossed for Kym he’s played by Jude Law!)

“Michelle’s split from Steve is not going to settle down in the coming months,” a telly source has teased.

“Instead they are facing a really poisonous divorce battle. There will also be romance for Michelle as she tries to move on with her life.”
