Celebrities share their love for Manchester in the city's first public event since the terrorist attack

Kym Marsh was among the Coronation Street stars paying tribute to their beloved home city in an emotional 10K charity run on Sunday.

She was joined by her co-stars Sally Dynevor, Bruno Langley and Colson Smith, as well as Emmerdale star Joe Gill, as they took to the streets of Manchester just six days after the devastating attack on Manchester Arena.

She shared a photo of herself and her daughter Polly, six, before the race. “Polly wants to wish everyone luck for the #Manchester10K but of course she wants mummy’s team to be the best,” wrote Kym on Twitter, alongside an emoji of a laughing face.

Kym was raising money for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

After the run, she posted a collage picture of her team saying the atmosphere had been incredible.

Another former Corrie star Denise Welsh was running on behalf of the Teenage Cancer Trust. She posed for a jokey photo with Sally Dyvenor, who played her rival on the soap.

“20 yrs on she’s still not over it!!!” wrote Denise.

Before the event, Denise said: “I have been away working all week and have been desperate to return to my adopted city.

“I’m so proud to have brought up my children here and that Manchester is in our hearts.

“I was offered the opportunity to withdraw from the run but nothing could be further from my mind.”

“I will be there with bells on proud to be amongst the wonderful people of Manchester and thinking of the families affected by the events of 22 May.”

Comedian John Bishop also took part. “There are more of us than them and today proved it,” he wrote on Twitter.

“Your terror will not win.”
