Kym Marsh admits living in fear of Coronation Street axe

Despite all the praise, the actress still worries about her future

| Updated:

To everyone else she’s the jewel in the Corrie crown but, incredibly, Kym Marsh gets anxious about being kicked off the cobbles.

The former singer has been a popular regular on the soap since 2006, but really blew everyone else out of the water earlier this year as she portrayed Michelle’s harrowing stillbirth scenes.

She won praise from fans, critics and colleagues alike – and in March she was awarded a new contract to stay on the soap until the summer of 2018.

But the 40-year-old never took for granted that she would be kept on – in fact she worried she’d be for the chop!

“Every time I’m up for a new contract I’m always a bit like ‘ooh what will happen?’” she confessed to the Daily Star Sunday.

“It’s amazing. I’ve been there for 11 years now and I’m delighted to be there another year.”

In truth, her future on Coronation Street was never in jeopardy, particularly after bigwigs saw her work on the baby plot.

A source told The Sun: “The bosses are delighted with Kym.

“Over the past year she has been handed some really challenging storylines, and she has handled them all brilliantly.

“Michelle has supported Simon Gregson’s character Steve through depression, married him and fallen pregnant with his child.

“But it was the miscarriage scenes that really blew them away.

“What’s more, they had a huge impact on viewers, many of whom got in touch to say how moved they were.”

Don’t go changing Kym, the fact you suffer self-doubt and keep pushing yourself harder is what makes you so special.
